Welcome Letter From our President
On behalf of the board of ORASIS, I would like to welcome you to the new Photographic Year 2017.
In 2016, which was our first complete year as a club, we carried out a number of events which we looked back on and briefly spoke about during the review of the year in our annual Vasilopitta event on the 13th January 2017 at 7pm. Needless to say, with the combination of our social events, seminars, workshops, excursions and competitions - it has been an exciting year to say the least!
We enter this new year with the promise to be much wiser than last year and to upgrade Orasis by offering more organised events with special moments.
Thank you all for attending our annual New Year celebrations and congratulations to all the winners of our raffle and to the person who found the lucky coin!
Wishing you all a prosperous year filled with many photographic opportunities!
Demetris Photiou - President
On behalf of the board of Orasis Photo Club, we would like to thank you all for your support and for being a part of our first complete and incredible photographic year as a club.
We are very proud to announce that 2016 brought 103 members to Orasis Photo Club! Throughout the year we were fortunate to receive their help, which also included financial help to purchase the new frames which will be used to display member gallery photos as well as competition photos.
Stay tuned as 2017 will be another full year with suprises!
Wishing you a very merry Christmas and all the best for the new year ahead!
One of the many beautiful attractions in Cyprus is the Salt Lake in Larnaca. Among it's picturesque beauty also lies the Hala Sultan Tekke, one of the holiest shines within Ottoman Islam. It is a Special Protected area under the Barcelona Convention and an important Bird Area, boasting 85 species of water birds which use this migratory passage through Cyprus as a feeding and breeding area.
On the 20th December, members of Orasis Photo Club decended to the Salt Lake to take photos of the sunset , learning at the same time different techniques to maje their photos more dramatic, as well as putting into place the composition techniques they learnt throughout 2016.

The World Wide Aquathon Day took part on Saturday 12th November 2016, organised by the winter swimmers of Limassol at Akti Olympion, with all proceeds going to the Cyprus Autistic Association.
As part of the event, a photography competition was organised and we are extremely proud to say that one of our members, Maria Papanastasiou won 3rd place!
We are also very proud to say that photos taken by our members were also sold at the event, with all proceeds going towards the Cyprus Autistic Association.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants of the event and we look forward to taking part again next year!
This was a long awaiting trip and we are glad to say it was well worth the wait!
Our members took to the beautiful village of Lofou, located in the Limassol district of Cyprus to walk around the stone built houses and cobbled streets in search of inspiration and scenic imagery.
There are literally hundreds of things to take photos of and this is a place that is worth visiting as the seasons change as it's beauty transforms with the first fall of snow and the blossoming colours of spring.
The beautiful thing about the Orasis trips is that over time our members have also become friends and enjoy each other's company deeply. In the past year they have learnt a great deal from each other and each new member is always welcomed with a smile and the same amount of warmth, making it hard to bring a trip to an end.
We would like to entend a big thanks to Mr. Kostas in Agrovinou Lofou Taverna and Mr Demetris from Agrovino Wine Shop/Bar for accomodating us on such a busy day for them.

We also had a little fun with the Mannequin Challenge up in Lofou, Check out our video below!
On Saturday 30th July, Orasis Photo Club members joined Magic Always Happens to support them in their attempt to break a new Guinness Record for people & autism, organised by Dr. Neophytos Papaneofytou. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the 1st annual Cyprus international conference of autism treatment and research which will take place in November 2016.
While we weren’t able to break the record, our members had a great time in both taking part and taking photos of the event! You can see a few of our snaps here but please visit our Facebook group to see the rest!
For the second year running, Orasis Photo Club took to the stars, teaching their members how to take photos of the Galaxy.
Thanks to the board members Andreas Xatziantonis and Panayiotis Pasxalides who organised both the seminar and excursion, our members were once again able to enjoy a creative trip under a star-lit sky, staying up till the early hours.
The seminar took place on Wednesday 1st June where instructions were given on how to take photos of the night sky, followed by a Q&A session with examples of photos taken previously by our board members. Light painting was also covered to enhance the night photography experience. As you can see, our members were able to experiment with both in the photos featured below during the excursion which took place on Saturday, 4th June in the abandoned village of Paramali, located on the South coast of the island.
A huge thank you to all our members and friends for joining us and for supporting us in our movement to lead the way in photography and give back something fun, educational and different to all photographers in Cyprus.
Watch this space for the next galaxy photography excursion. We're only just getting started for 2016.
On Sunday, 15th May Orasis Members took to the dusty roads of Paphos and Akamas with a jeep convoy to explore a series of stunning landscapes and scenery with ample opportunities for photography.
With an early 8am start, we began our journey from Limassol with a first stop at the Sea Caves and the shipwreak of Peyia in Paphos. With a comfortable number of 15, we were able to explore and help each other get a selection of creative shots to boost our personal portfolios.
A brief jeep trip later and after a mild 30 minute walk, our group made it's way to Akavas Gorge.
Next stop after lunch, the Baths of Aphrodite.
And then there was Demetri's tree :)
Our final destination before making the journey home was a visit to the abandoned village of Souskiou which is located in the Paphos district.
Thank you to all our members who joined us on our first Photo-Safari trip. To those of you who weren't able to make it, see you at the next one!

On the 18th April 2015, the founding members of our beloved club got together to sign the official documentation which would be sent to the government and lead to our recognition as an official club. One year later and we are still standing strong with an incredible team and amazing members who have supported us in all our activities and proudly call themselves "Orasites"!
We celebrated our 1st Birthday at the Alien Bowling Alley in My Mall, Limassol with a lot of laughter, fun and of course cake! Thank you Margarita Constantinou for making yet another incredible cake which was devoured within minutes by all who attended.
Watch this space, we may just be arranging another bowling session soon :)
On Thursday, 31st March 2016, Orasis Photo Club held their first Photography Exhibition at RODI Event Venue in Limassol, following the successful completion of the "CYPRUS CARNIVAL 2016" Photography Competition.
Words alone cannot describe just how incredible this evening was, marking a new era for ORASIS Photo Club. Thanks to the help of our members, we were able to pull together what turned out to be an incredible evening. Special thanks also goes out to our sponsors who provided us with food and drinks for the opening night.
We can't wait till our next event. Stay tuned for more on this soon!
